Scott

Where are you from?

Georgia, Delaware, Montana, Washington, Outer Banks of NC… and then eventually here, Maine! We moved here in 2000.

How long have you been with Bandaloop?

My wife and I opened Bandaloop in 2004 in Kennebunkport, and then we opened the new location in Arundel in 2019.

What do you do when you’re not at Bandaloop?

Surfing, mountain or gravel biking, anything outside, anything on the water.

What is YOUR favorite Bandaloop treat?

Anything fresh. The sourdough focaccia. I’ve just been really loving baking generally.

What were you like in high school?

Probably the same. I listened to punk rock music. I had a mohawk (so that’s different). It was a different world back then.

Where are you from and where do you live?
I'm originally from Staten Island, NY. I moved to Maine in 1988 and currently live in Augusta.

What is the 46 Million Turkeys Project?
46 Million Turkeys is a community participatory art project I initiated in 2013. The project's primary goal is to represent through portraiture the staggering number of turkeys eaten on a single Thanksgiving Day. For over a decade I've been engaging with community members to draw a small 3" x 3" portrait of a turkey. And, every portrait I collect is as unique as the individual who created it.

What is one surprising thing you've learned doing this work? Irrespective of whether or not a person agrees with my beliefs regarding animals as food, they will nevertheless draw me a turkey portrait for the collection. I love that!

What do you do when NOT thinking about turkeys?
When I'm not attending events--art walks, festivals and Frinklepod pop ups--to collect turkey portraits from the public, I make art. My preferred media is watercolor and the subjects I paint most often are trees, rats, octopus, and fish. For outdoor exercise, I "walk" my cat on a leash.

What is something you like about Frinklepod?
My favorite thing about visiting Frinklepod is the people, both staff and visitors. It is so heartening to be around so many warm and kind people. I'm grateful for the variety of vendors like Frinklepod who grow, make, and sell products that align with my chosen way of living.

What is something that brings you joy?
Joy for me is an animal rescue that was successful. I once rescued a kitten from the Lincoln Tunnel in Manhattan!

How long have you been coming to Frinklepod?
I found you on closing day last year! So I’ve been enjoying the farm for the full season this year.

Favorite food we grow, or favorite product in the farm store?
Any of your produce is amazing. Carefully grown food makes such a difference. I love buying local.

Why do you come to Frinklepod?
I enjoy chatting with the staff, and the owners, Noah and Flora.

What inspires you?
I love to cook. Your food and produce inspires me to create in the kitchen!

Abby

Faces of Frinklepod: Abby, a member of the farm and a regular in our store!

Where are you from?

I'm from Kennebunkport! Although both of my parents were from Aroostook County, my dad was in the Air Force so I actually grew up all over but moved to Kennebunkport in 1973.

How long have you been coming to Frinklepod Farm?

I’ve been coming to Frinklepod since the beginning! So happy to have a local, organic farm to support our community.

What is your favorite food we grow, or your favorite product in the farm store?

Too many favorites to pick one. I love whatever is in season–greens, beans, tomatoes, corn, peppers, squash… Love trying all the new food items in the refrigerator, lots of new/fun options this year.

Favorite thing about the farm?

I love that the farm is accessible, open, welcoming and has lots to offer, and the wonderful staff!!

If you had a time machine, which historical event would you want to see and why?

The “I Have A Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King. I’ve always been moved by Dr. King and the legacy of civil disobedience.

Ollie

Faces of Frinklepod: Olie, our neighbor and a regular at the farm store.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Kennebunk, and we moved to Arundel a few years ago.

How long have you been coming to the farm and Snagglebites Soft Serve?

We’ve been coming to the farm store since right before COVID, because that’s when we moved here, and to soft serve ever since it opened.

Favorite order at the window?

Chocolate soft serve on a gluten-free cone!

Why do you get soft serve here?

First of all, because I’m dairy free, and second of all, because this is better soft serve than I’ve had anywhere else. It’s so creamy!

If you could only have three books or movies with you while stranded on a desert island, what would they be?

Frozen 2, Praise, and The Minutemen.

Olie heads off to college in a couple of weeks and we wish them an amazing first year!
